Weekday opening hours will be reduced but we’re extending our weekend opening hours. Monday 9 February to Sunday 22 February 2026.

The change in opening hours is due to building work being undertaken.

Opening hours will be:
Monday – Friday 5.00pm - 7.00pm
Saturday and Sunday 9.30am - 4.00pm

Happenings During the Changed Hours

JPs in the Library Wednesdays 11 and 18 February 5.00pm - 7.00pm
In addition to their regular Saturday time of 10am - 12.00pm our Justices of the Peace (JPs) will be in attendance on Wednesday evenings.

Epilepsy New Zealand drop-in Tuesday 17 February 5.00pm - 6.00pm
Theresa will be here to talk with people about epilepsy and to remind those who live with seizures that they are not alone.  Purple Day is dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy nationally and worldwide.

English Conversation Group Thursday 19 February 5.30pm - 6.30pm
Join our friendly English conversation group for ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages). It's free and all ESOL speakers are welcome.

Back to School – Get Crafty is on three Wednesdays 11, 18 & 25 February 5.00pm - 6.00pm
Join us at the library to make some fun back-to-school craft creations. A different craft each week.

Summer Storytime is on three Saturdays 14, 21 & 28 February from 10.00am - 10.30am  
Join us for a fun-filled 30-minute session that incorporates books, rhymes and songs to build early literacy skills. Fun for the whole family.

We expect to resume usual opening hours on Monday 23 February, however this may be extended for another week if there are delays due to the weather.

If you have holds to collect during this time and can't get in during our temporary opening hours please call us on 03 543 8500 and we'll see what we can do.

Any borrowed items which are due during this time can be returned in the library during opening hours or through the Queen Street after hours returns.  The Petrie Carpark after hours returns will be closed.

Our digital library will be available 24/7

Library wifi will be available outside of the building.

You can use your Tasman library card at our Motueka, Tākaka and Murchison libraries.

Tasman residents are eligible for membership of Nelson Library.  You will need to sign up for a Nelson Library card.
