This summer Tasman District Libraries held a poetry contest for teens, encouraging pieces that were inspired by the theme “Audaces Fortuna Juvat – Fortune Favours The Bold”

We were treated to both entertaining and insightful entries from Tasman’s young writers. While it was difficult for staff to choose a winner, Juliet’s heartfelt piece stood out and was a credit to the writing prompt given.

Juliet enjoys writing and has recently written a young adult fantasy book with a diverse range of characters called “Rebels of Allernia”. We wish her all the best with getting published and her future writing endeavours!

Here's Julia's winning entry.

Hope.

Fold yourself into the box and hold onto the sides.

Come along for the ride.

Have the world in the palm of your hand.

Love with all of your heart.

Take a risk. Gamble with fate.

Stand on the edge of destruction and dare yourself to take the next step.

Be.

Paint the world with your colours.

Don’t be ashamed, be bright instead.

Pick up your fears and make them beautiful.

Scare.

Feel.

Open your eyes. Unlock your heart.

Watch the clouds float by and see in them what no one else does.

Write your dreams. Paint them, see them, want them.

Live them.
