Using the Library

Borrowing

It’s easy to borrow items from the Tasman District Libraries.

What Can I Borrow?

If you are a library member you can borrow items from any of our branch libraries - Motueka, Murchison,  Richmond and Tākaka.
It is important you bring your library card with you when visiting any of our libraries.

Please do not let others use your library card – you will be responsible for any items borrowed on your card.

Keep your details up to date.  Remember to let us know if you change your address, email, or lose your card - this is for your own security.

  • The usual loan period is three weeks.
  • High demand items may be restricted.
  • You can borrow up to 35 items on your card.
  • Items can usually be renewed.

Returning Items

You can return items to any of our libraries (Motueka, Murchison, Richmond or Tākaka), irrespective of which of our branches they were borrowed from.

If we are closed, you can return items using our after-hours bins located near our entrances.

Renewing

If you would like to keep an item for longer items can be renewed by visiting or contacting your local library, through our App or online.

You will need a PIN to renew your items online - if you do not have a PIN or cannot remember your PIN, please contact us

  • Items may be able to be renewed a maximum of two times.
  • Items cannot be renewed if they are on hold for another borrower.

Renewal Fees

If the item you are renewing is from a rental collection, there will be an additional rental charge applied.

Overdue items

Although we do not charge fines, you will still receive overdue notices from us letting you know the item(s) are overdue.

When item(s) are too overdue we will assume you have lost them and we will charge a replacement cost for the item, this means:

  1. You will not be able to use your card until the item(s) are returned or the account is paid.
  2. You will not be able to access our e-Resources (e.g. Libby, BorrowBox or Kanopy).

When you do return the item(s) the charges will be removed from your card.

Placing a hold on an Item

If the item is on loan, you will be added to the list of people who are waiting for it. If more than one person has requested an item, new holds are added to the queue.

You can place a hold in one of four ways:

  1. Phone us and we can place a hold for you.
  2. Place a hold online with your library card number and a Password / PIN. If you cannot remember your PIN, or do not have one, please contact your local library
  3. Place a hold using the Tasman District Libraries App.
  4. Ask a library team member when you are in the library.

Holds can be sent to your closest Tasman District Library for you to collect.
