New Zealand Post Book Awards Winners Announced

Winners of this year's New Zealand Post Book Awards have been announced.
At a glittering awards ceremony held at Auckland Museum the top prize was awarded to a "stunned" Kirsty Gunn for her novel The Big Music.
Published in July last year, the novel tells the story of John Sutherland, a dying man creating a musical composition.
Competition judge, Paora Tibble said, "Her book just touched you to the next level, it really touched the heart."
Other winners included
- Poetry: The Darling North, by Anne Kennedy
- Illustrated Non-Fiction: Pat Hanly by Gregory O'Brien and Gil Hanly
- General Non-Fiction: Civilisation: Twenty Places on the Edge of the World by Steve Braunias
- Nielsen Booksellers' Choice: Shelter from the Storm: The Story of New Zealand's Backcountry Huts by Shaun Barnett, Rob Brown and Geoff Spearpoint.
Shelter from the Storm was one of two winning books published by local independent publishing house, Craig Potton Publishing.
The second was Moa: The Life and Death of New Zealand's Legendary Bird by Quinn Berentson, which won the NZSA Best First Book Award for Non-Fiction.
