Family Feud Divides the Coast

Friday 4 March 2016

A new kiwi film, Mahana, based on Witi Ihimaera's novel Bulibasha is due for nationwide release on Thursday 3 March.

Set in rural New Zealand in the 1950's, the film tells the story of two large families of sheep-shearers, the Mahanas and the Poatas. The families are sworn enemies and 14-year-old Simeon, growing up in the shadow of his powerful grandfather, wants to know why.

Teaming up director Lee Tamahori and star actor Temuera Morrison for the first time since Once Were Warriors, it also stars Nancy Brunning and Jim Moriarty. Simeon is played by newcomer Akuhata Keefe, a Tolaga Bay Area School student.
